Laughter seems to be the only remedy that can get us through dodgy bank situations, dying reality T.V. stars and Cheryl Cole on a mountain, so when presented with an invitation to attend a comedy club on a Saturday evening I couldn’t refuse.
 
This particular comedy night took place in an upstairs room at the Hen & Chicken pub in Bedminster. Now, granted I’ve been to Jesters many a time, so felt slightly skeptical about a night out in Bedminster but for budgeting reasons, the Hen & Chicken would be our home for the evening.
 
Entering the pub at a typically rowdy 8pm, I was greeted with a beautifully set out room, with comfortable seating, friendly staff and mood lighting Barry White would be proud of. After grabbing a reasonably priced white wine – large, might I add - we were informed that we would receive 20% off food with our comedy tickets, which were only £5 to begin with. Bonus.

A menu full of pub grub, my friend and I plumped for a parma ham and rocket pizza. The food was out within ten minutes, and I can honestly say that it tasted absolutely divine.

We then ventured upstairs to be seated for an evening of jokes. The room itself was reminiscent of a working men’s social club with dodgy carpet and wooden chairs - not an ideal setting. Nevertheless, the show started and was full of what you’d expect from two hotly tipped newbie stand-ups.

A few post drinks (OK, several more glasses of wine and a round of Sambucas) clocked up a very modest bill of £17.50.

So, all in all it was a brilliant night full of comedy genius, great food, great booze and a comfortable yet sophisticated setting. And at only £5 a ticket, it’s me that’s laughing all the way home.
