I arrive into work this morning to find an email from Sam Temple sitting in my inbox.

Sam Temple, as in MY EX BOYFRIEND WHO I HAVEN'T SEEN FOR 5 YEARS!

Clicking onto the mouse to open it I hold my breath as I read:

"Elle! What a surprise! Charlie just dropped me an email saying you were trying to get in touch and gave me your work address. Hope it's OK to email on it?

So, how can I help you? Congrats on becomming a journo by the way. I remember at uni when you started writing for the uni mag - you were so determined to get there and now you have! I'm very proud!

Anway, fire away and let me know what you're up to.

I take a deep breath and re read the email. OK, so it's chatty. Its NOT flirty, and he certainly doesn't say anything along the lines of 'god I've missed you so much since we split and can't bear life without you (which is a bit of a shame - it's nice to think that one ex boyfriend at least may still be lusting over me). In short the email is friendly and well.....nice.

Phew, maybe this date won't be so bad afterall.

I promptly reply:

"Sam! How lovely to hear from you! Sorry for being a bit of a stalker but rest assured, it is entirely for work purposes! You see, writing for the uni mag has paid off, and as a result, my lovely editor has set me the task of going on a date with my ex boyfriends (er, that's you by the way!)

So please humour me (and give me the opportunity to become an even better journo). Fancy going for a few drinks next week - for the article's sake? I promise I'll only write good things?
